Sorghum, pumpkins and peas....oh my! Fall is not just a perfect time of year for me, but our goats at 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ are enjoying the harvest as well. This is just one of the sustainable practices we love demonstrating at our 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ Small Farm.† Working with nature and incorporating livestock into the garden is not only sustainable, but we cut out most of our labor and fuel/equipment costs.

91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ recently learned that it was one of only nine community colleges nationwide to win†recognition†for its innovative agriculture programs by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).

As a recipient of the 2016 Green Genome Awards, 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ was specifically honored for Program Design and Delivery in Sustainable Agriculture. The award comes with a prize of $10,000, which will be used to further sustainable agriculture efforts at 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½.

"I am excited that our work over the past several years is getting national recognition.

Planned activities include Archery, Shotgunning, Blacksmithing, Rifle, Handgun, Dutch Oven Cooking, Several Make it-Take it Crafts, Fly Fishing, and Much, Much More!!! Bring your mom, sister, friend or co-worker, or all of them! The 2015 Women In The Outdoors event was recognized as the best Women in The Outdoors event in Texas. You can make the 2016 event even better!!

 

 

 

 

Pick your own vegetables and herbs from the 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ garden and use them to prepare a delicious meal from the menu prepared by Rene McCracken, Director of Agriculture at 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½, who is also a wonderful cook in her own right!

September 23, 2016 Region VIII is teaming up with 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ to bring Louann Sewell Waters to lead this wonderful workshop. Come join us to see what's cooking! The workshop is located at the Elizabeth Hoggatt Whatley Agriculture Comples across from the main 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ cmapus entrance.

The 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ Agriculture program recently traveled to the Texas Junior college Agriculture Association (TJCAA) conference at Tarleton State University in Stephenville.

Agriculture is not just about farming or production agriculture ? although I am proud to be called a farmer.† Historically, what we all first think of when we say agriculture jobs might just be the farmer pictured.
