Melissa Weinbrenner named Phi Theta Kappa Faculty Scholar for second consecutive year

Dr. Melissa Weinbrenner,†91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ history professor and Phi Theta Kappa advisor, has been chosen to serve as a Phi Theta Kappa 2013 Faculty Scholar. Only 25 community college instructors were selected from among nearly 3,000 chapter advisors to serve in this role.

91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ plans sixth annual McGraw-Hill Poster Contest

The sixth annual 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ McGraw-Hill poster contest will be held on†Friday, April 26 at 9:30 a.m. in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. The contest is open to all 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ and area high school students.†

Those who wish to enter should submit a 75+ word abstract to Dr. Andrew Yox, 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ Honors Director, by April 24.

CAPPED event brings high school seniors to 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½

Communities In Schools (CIS) brought about 240 high school students to the 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ campus on March 21†for CAPPED (Certificate and Professional Programs Exploration Day).†

CAPPED @ 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ †is a program designed to bring high school students to 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ to learn about programs available to expedite their entry into professional careers in the workplace.† It also allows 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ faculty to showcase their programs.

Noah Griffin receives Caldwell Award for Texas History essay

At the recent Texas State Historical Association (TSHA) conference in Fort Worth, 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ honors student Noah Griffin won first place in the Caldwell Award competition for the best essay in Texas History.† He received a $400 award for the honor, topping all peers in the college/university, freshman/sophomore level.† Steve Cure, the Director for Educational Services of the TSHA, remarked that there was an especially crowded field of entries this year.

Griffin is the son of Joy and Dr. Stephen Griffin from Pittsburg, Texas.

Phi Theta Kappa presents report at March board meeting

Dr. Melissa Weinbrenner, advisor for the 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, presented a report to the 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ board of trustees Tuesday night. She shared that 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½'s Alpha Mu Chi Chapter recently won 19 awards at the 2013 Texas Regional Convention in Dallas in addition being elected District III Vice President. Four students were in attendance at the board meeting during the report.
