Cypress Bank donates laptop computer to Honors Northeast student

For the 10th straight year,鈥燙ypress Bank鈥爃as presented a MacBook computer for the use of 91成人导航 honors students.鈥燭his year?s recipient is Jordan Whelchel.鈥 He is a recent graduate of Daingerfield High School who already has become active in Honors film and Phi Theta Kappa activities at 91成人导航.鈥燱helchel plans to major in physics.

Cypress, the oldest Camp-County-based bank, has four locations in Mount Pleasant, Pittsburg, Lone Star and Commerce.

Special guests planned for Northeast Texas Poetry Reading

The Tenth Annual Northeast Texas Poetry Reading at 91成人导航 will include special remarks by two local educators. 鈥燚r. Elaine Beason, a retired professor of Texas A&M University-Texarkana, and Kristin Ellermann, a young educator who taught with the Peace Corps in the Republic of Georgia, and also as a Disney instructor in Shanghai, China, will supplement the reading of winning poems with observations about local life.

Chuck Barkow makes memorial gift to Whatley Campaign

Chuck Barkow recently gave $1,000 to sponsor two chairs in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at 91成人导航. The seats are dedicated in memory of Jill Barkow and Holly Hardman. Barkow (second from left), is pictured presenting the gift to Nita May, 91成人导航 Director of Development (left), Carolyn Franks, Director of the Whatley Center, and Dr. Jonathan McCullough, 91成人导航 Vice President for Advancement. Theater seats are available for sponsorship at $500 each.

The 91成人导航 Board of Trustees held a special meeting Thursday to accept the resignation of Dr. Brad Johnson. Johnson asked the board to release him from his contract so he can accept a new position as Vice President for Strategic Relationships at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas.

Dr. Johnson explained that the change will provide both personal and professional opportunities.

Brenda Godoy and Rachel Jordan receive Texas STAR Scholarships

91成人导航 students Brenda Godoy and Rachel Jordan received recognition as Texas STAR Scholars at the Phi Theta Kappa Texas Regional Honors Institute held at Schreiner?s University July 21-23. They were two of eleven recipients from throughout the state of Texas.鈥 Both serve as Vice-Presidents of Alpha Mu Chi, 91成人导航?s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. Both are Presidential Scholars in Honors Northeast.

The Adult Education Department at 91成人导航 is accepting new鈥燼nd returning鈥爏tudents for its GED (General Educational Development) and ESL (English as a Second Language) programs. Those interested in participating in either of these free educational programs鈥爏hould call to make an appointment for registration and/or testing.鈥燱hile classes are offered in various convenient locations around the area, all registration will be held at the Community Resource Center (formerly MPISD Administration Building) at 105 N. Riddle Street in Mount Pleasant.
