The 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ Carroll Shelby Student Auto Club is having a fund-raising chili cook-off to honor Carroll Shelby’s 100th birthday.  All monies will go to support the club’s activities.  The event will be held in the 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ Culinary School in downtown Pittsburg on January 11th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Awards will be given for the winner of the People’s Choice and Judge’s Choice Chili.  To enter a chili concoction, contact Club President Brandon Fuller at (430) 900-8324. 

The Adult Education Department at 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ is accepting new and returning students for its GED (General Educational Development) and ESL (English as a Second Language) programs. Those interested in participating in either of these free educational programs should call to make an appointment for registration beginning January 2, 2023.

A recent issue of the Harvard Business Review, the psychology of child development, and the author of the recent book, How to Avoid Death by PowerPoint, are all in agreement. Stories are powerful. Studies show that humans have a very active and positive hormonal response to good stories, and that stories are an exemplary way to promote memory and engagement in learning.

91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ recently learned that it is the recipient of a $3 million Title V grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Title V grants are highly competitive and 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ was one of only 78 higher educational institutions to receive the award in 2022.

The 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ Board of Trustees met for its regular December meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 13th. 

The first item on the agenda was the presentation of the annual independent audit by the firm of Axley and Rode. Molly Abele gave the report, which included an unmodified opinion for both the college and the 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ Foundation. She stated that the audit did not uncover any deficiencies or issues of concern. The college increased its net position by $387,319 from the previous fiscal year.

91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ will be closed from Monday, Dec. 19th through Friday, Dec. 30th. Offices will resume normal business hours on Monday, Jan. 2nd. 

The Spring 2023 semester begins January 17th. 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ may still apply and register online via  while the college is closed. We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday break! 

91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ celebrated December 2022 commencement on Friday, Dec. 9th at 7 p.m. in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. A total of 100 graduates were awarded 60 certificates of competency, 11 Associate of Arts, six Associate of Arts in Teaching, 42 Associate of Science, and 17 Associate of Applied Science. Jalisha Broadnax gave the student welcome and Jaime Olvera delivered the student response.

Congratulations, graduates! We are very proud of your accomplishments.  

The 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ Foundation is pleased to announce that seven 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ employees have been awarded funds through the 2022 Whatley Employee Enhancement Grant. The Foundation received 13 outstanding applications. A total of $12,260 was awarded through the grant.

91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ held its annual Employee Christmas Party and Service Awards/Retirement Luncheon on Friday, Dec. 8th. In addition to wishing Elayne Peters, Director of the Testing Center, well in her retirement, the college also honored those who reached service milestones.
